Most guides to choosing a Webflow agency are written by Webflow agencies, and most of them end with the author in first place. That is fair marketing, but it skips the question that matters most for your brand: is Webflow the right platform for you in the first place?
We have built client websites in Webflow, structured with Finsweet’s Client-First and Timothy Ricks’ Lumos. Today we design in Figma and build most of our sites in Astro. Because we work in more than one stack, we can tell you plainly when Webflow fits and when it does not. This guide covers what a Webflow agency does, when Webflow is the right choice, when another stack serves you better and how to judge an agency before you sign. Every platform fact below was checked against Webflow’s own documentation and public usage data in October 2026.
What does a Webflow agency do?
A Webflow agency plans, designs, builds and maintains websites on Webflow. Webflow is a hosted visual development platform: a designer builds real HTML and CSS on a visual canvas, and Webflow hosts the result. You get a custom website without a server to manage or a plugin stack to patch.
A full-service Webflow agency usually covers:
- Strategy and structure: audience, brand story, sitemap and wireframes before anything is designed.
- Design: often in Figma first, then translated into Webflow.
- Build: pages, components and a class system that keeps the project maintainable.
- CMS setup: Collections for blog posts, cases, team members or locations, with templates your team fills.
- Migration: moving content from WordPress or another platform, with a redirect for every old URL.
- SEO foundations: titles, metadata, structured data, page speed and clean headings.
- Integrations: forms that reach your CRM, analytics and marketing tools.
- Training and support: so your team can publish with confidence after launch.
Webflow got its start in 2013 and now calls itself an AI-native platform for teams that build websites. It is a specialist’s tool rather than the web’s default. According to W3Techs, Webflow runs 0.8% of all websites as of 20 October 2026, against 39.6% for WordPress. That smaller footprint is one reason experience matters: the pool of agencies that build in Webflow at a high level is limited.
When Webflow is the right choice
Webflow is the right choice when your marketing team wants to edit and build pages visually, launch fast and keep design control without asking a developer for every change.
It fits especially well when:
- Your marketing team edits visually. Webflow’s own pitch is that marketing can add and update site content while design and engineering focus on bigger work. If your team launches campaign pages every month, that independence is worth a lot.
- Speed to launch matters. Build, CMS and hosting live in one platform, so a well-run Webflow project moves quickly from approved design to live site.
- The brand depends on motion and interaction. Webflow handles animations and interactions on the canvas, without custom JavaScript for every effect.
- You have no developers in-house. Hosting, security certificates and platform updates are handled by Webflow, so nobody on your side patches servers.
We have seen this work in practice. For ATR Transmissies, the ATR Remote portal is a login page and customer portal designed in Webflow and connected to the partner and customer API.
When another stack fits your brand better
Choose another stack when ownership, performance, content volume or connections to the rest of your business matter more than visual editing. Webflow is excellent at what it does, but it is not the answer to every brief.
Astro: when your website is infrastructure
We build most sites in Astro today because, for our clients, the website has become more than a marketing surface. Astro is a web framework for content-driven websites that ships zero JavaScript by default and renders on the server first, which keeps pages fast. The code and content are yours, they live in plain files and they can be hosted anywhere.
That structure turns the website into a source of truth for your company. Your automations, your CRM and your AI assistants can read from it, and you can change it in natural language with tools like Claude Code. The honest trade-off: there is no visual canvas for your marketing team. Text edits happen in plain files with a preview or through your partner, which suits some teams and frustrates others.
WordPress: when content volume and plugins rule
WordPress remains the largest platform on the web by far, with a content management market share of 58.3% according to W3Techs. It fits organisations with large editorial teams, heavy publishing schedules or a need for specific plugins. The trade-off is maintenance: themes, plugins and core updates need constant care, and a neglected WordPress site ages badly.
A website builder: when the site is small
If your website is a few pages you update twice a year, a builder such as Squarespace is often the smarter, cheaper choice. We explain where that line sits in our honest review of Squarespace.
Webflow, Astro and WordPress compared
| Platform | Who edits | Hosting | Ownership and portability | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Webflow | Marketing team, visually | Included, by Webflow | Code export on paid Workspace plans, without CMS content | Marketing sites that change often |
| Astro | Plain files, Claude Code or a partner | Anywhere, often edge CDNs | Full: the code and content are yours | Fast sites that act as your company’s backbone |
| WordPress | Editors in the WordPress dashboard | You or your agency | Full, but tied to themes and plugins | Content-heavy sites with plugin needs |
The ownership column deserves a closer look. Webflow lets you export your site’s HTML, CSS, JavaScript and assets on paid Workspace plans, but the export leaves out CMS content and functionality, ecommerce, user accounts, localised content, site search and form processing. CMS Collections can be exported separately as CSV files. In practice, a CMS-driven Webflow site that moves to another platform needs a rebuild of its dynamic parts. Weigh that before you commit, especially if your site will lean heavily on the CMS.
How to judge a Webflow agency
Judge a Webflow agency on four things: proven Webflow skill, a clean build system, a clear plan for SEO and migration, and an honest answer on ownership and platform fit.
Start with Webflow’s Certified Partner directory
Webflow runs its own Certified Webflow Partner directory. You can browse it and filter by services offered, budget, location and more, or describe your project and let Webflow recommend partners. According to Webflow, every Certified Partner has been vetted and qualified by the Webflow team. It is the most reliable starting list you will find, and it costs nothing to use.
Know what the badge proves, and what it does not
The Webflow Partner Program has three tiers: Foundations, Certified and Premium. Foundations is the entry level. To become Certified, a freelancer or agency needs an active Freelancer or Agency Workspace plan, has to pass a pre-qualification assessment and must build at least three new client sites in Webflow, which Webflow reviews against its site grading rubric. Premium Partners advance by delivering more client projects.
So the badge proves Webflow craft. It does not prove strategic thinking, brand understanding or a willingness to tell you Webflow is wrong for your project. Keep one more fact in mind: Webflow partners earn 10 to 20% commission on the Site plans and add-ons they sell. That is normal in software, and it does not make anyone dishonest. It does mean a partner has a commercial reason to recommend Webflow, so ask how they are paid.
Ask which build system they use, and why
A Webflow project without a system becomes a tangle of one-off classes that nobody dares to touch. Good agencies work with a documented system. Client-First is Finsweet’s set of guidelines and strategies for organised, maintainable Webflow projects, with clear class naming, folders and a spacing system. Lumos, by Timothy Ricks, is a more technical framework. We have built with both, and either works when the team applies it consistently.
Ask the agency which system it uses, why, and whether your team will receive a style guide page that shows every class in use. If the answer is “we have our own way”, ask to see it.
Open the live work, not the screenshots
Portfolios show the best angle. Open the agency’s live sites on your phone. Test how the navigation behaves, how fast pages load and how the CMS pages hold up when the content is longer than the design assumed. A free tool such as Google’s PageSpeed Insights gives you a quick, neutral read on performance.
Ask how your team will edit after launch
Visual editing is the reason most brands choose Webflow, so make the agency show you exactly what your team can change, what is locked and how mistakes are prevented. Ask for training and written documentation. A site your team is afraid to touch has lost Webflow’s main advantage.
Ask about SEO and migration before design starts
A relaunch is the moment many websites lose years of search traffic. Ask how the agency maps old URLs to new ones, carries over metadata and structured data, and checks the result after launch. Our guide to redirects during a relaunch shows what a careful process looks like on any platform. If AI search matters to you, ask how the site will be cited by ChatGPT and Google’s AI features as well as ranked; we explain the difference in SEO versus GEO.
Settle ownership in writing
Make sure the Webflow site, the Workspace and the billing sit in your company’s name, with admin access for your own people. Agree on what happens if you part ways: who transfers what, and how quickly. These are dull questions on day one and essential ones in year three.
What does a Webflow agency cost?
A Webflow agency’s price depends on scope: the number of unique page templates, the complexity of the CMS, migration work, integrations, languages and interactions. Webflow’s directory lets you filter partners by budget, and Webflow matches clients with partners on criteria such as minimum project price, so you can compare realistic options before the first call.
For reference, our own webdesign projects start around EUR 4,000, and larger CMS-driven platforms can reach EUR 20,000 or more. Webflow’s Site plan and Workspace are billed separately by Webflow, so include them in your total cost. The cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest site: a project without a build system or a migration plan tends to cost you twice.
How we help
Viralistic is a strategic digital partner in Amsterdam for established businesses and premium brands. We start where every good website starts: the brand script, the sitemap and the story your visitors need to hear. Then we design in Figma and recommend the stack that fits your team. Most often that is Astro. Sometimes it is Webflow, when your marketing team wants to build visually. You get one strategic lead for design, search and the automations around your site, instead of a stack of freelancers.
See our webdesign approach, read how we design luxury websites that convert, or look at managed hosting if you want one point of contact for domain, DNS, SSL and updates after launch. For brands where search is a priority, our guide to SEO for luxury brands shows how the site and the content work together.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Webflow agency?
A Webflow agency is a design and development studio that builds, migrates and maintains websites on Webflow. A strong one covers strategy, design, a structured build, CMS setup, SEO and training, so your team can run the site after launch. The best ones also tell you when Webflow is not the right platform for your goals.
Is Webflow a legit company?
Yes. Webflow got its start in 2013 and is led by CEO Linda Tong. W3Techs reports that Webflow runs 0.8% of all websites, including well-known sites such as Discord.com and Anthropic.com. It is a mature hosted platform, and its Certified Partner Program vets the freelancers and agencies listed in its directory.
How much does a Webflow agency cost?
It depends on scope. A small marketing site costs far less than a CMS-driven platform with migration, integrations and several languages. Our webdesign projects start around EUR 4,000, and larger CMS-driven platforms can reach EUR 20,000 or more. Budget separately for Webflow’s own Site plan and Workspace, which Webflow bills directly.
Which Webflow agency is considered the best?
There is no single best Webflow agency, and most “best of” lists are written by agencies that rank themselves first. The best agency for you understands your brand, uses a documented build system, plans SEO and migration carefully and is honest about platform fit. Start with Webflow’s Certified Partner directory, then compare live work and references.
Should I hire a Webflow freelancer or a Webflow agency?
A skilled freelancer works well for a small site or a clearly defined update. An agency makes more sense when you need strategy, design, development, SEO, migration and support from one accountable team. Whichever you choose, check their partner status, their build system and who will maintain the site after launch.
Can a Webflow agency migrate my site from WordPress?
Yes. Most Webflow agencies handle migrations from WordPress and other platforms. The critical part is the redirect map: every old URL needs a new destination, or you lose search traffic. Before you migrate, also ask whether Webflow is the right destination, because Astro or a cleaner WordPress build may serve your goals better.
