Lecture
Anthropic
A lecture at Anthropic, the company behind Claude, on when to use predictable automation such as n8n and when a probabilistic AI model.
Marrallisa Kreijkes is an n8n specialist and official n8n Ambassador based in Amsterdam. She maps your process, builds n8n workflows that run in production with error handling and documentation, and teaches your team to own them. DataCamp, n8n, Anthropic and Volkswagen Pon Financial Services have all asked her to teach.
The person who teaches the room is the person who builds your workflow. These are the stages and classrooms behind that claim.

Explore ↗Hiring an n8n specialist is easy. Upwork, Fiverr and the n8n community job board are full of them. Hiring one whose workflows still run in month three is harder. The usual story: a freelancer wires up a demo, it works on the happy path, and then a customer with two contacts or an invoice that needs a credit note breaks it at three in the morning. Nobody gets an alert. Nobody knows who owns it.
Marrallisa Kreijkes works the other way around. As founder of Viralistic and an official n8n Ambassador, she starts with your process, builds n8n workflows that fail visibly and hands your team the keys. She explains the same method on stage and in classrooms: in a DataCamp webinar, on the main stage of n8n’s first conference, in a lecture at Anthropic and in a workshop at Maastricht University. If you work with her, you work with the person those organisations chose to teach their audiences.
An n8n specialist designs, builds and maintains automated workflows in n8n, the fair-code automation platform, so your systems pass data to each other and repetitive work stops landing on people. A good one starts with the business process, not with the nodes.
In practice the work covers five things:
An n8n developer focuses on the build. An n8n consultant focuses on the advice. A specialist worth hiring does both, because a workflow built on a badly understood process automates the confusion.
You need an n8n specialist when a process runs daily or weekly, touches two or more systems and costs your team hours you can name. You do not need one for a single three-step connection you can build in an afternoon.
Bring in a specialist when:
Do not hire one, us included, in three situations. When the task is one simple connection, use a template or our n8n guides and build it yourself. When the process itself is broken, fix the process first: automating waste only produces waste faster, which is why we start with value stream mapping and the 8 wastes of Lean. And when you need a large engineering team on call around the clock, a big system integrator from n8n’s expert partner directory fits better than one specialist. Not sure if n8n is even the right tool? Our automation specialist page covers the wider choice.
Because you can check every claim. Marrallisa is an official n8n Ambassador since August 2025, spoke on the main stage of In The Loop in Berlin in October 2026 and has taught n8n and AI for organisations that choose their teachers carefully.

The method is published too. Our help centre holds more than a dozen n8n guides, from error handling to turning a business process into an agentic workflow. We publish a free n8n 3.0 upgrade checklist and our approach to governance for automations and AI agents. And through our n8n hosting partner you can run your own n8n instance hosted in Europe, ready for what we build together.
One honest note on the title: n8n Ambassador is a community role, not an exam. It means Marrallisa knows the platform and the people who build it, and hears early where n8n is heading. Judge the build quality on the questions further down this page, like you would with anyone.
Every project follows the same order: agree on the value, map the process, build, measure and only then scale. It is the approach behind our value-first automation, and it exists because most automation pilots never show a return.
Value first. We write a short success plan: which process, which outcome, which metrics and who owns them. If we cannot name the metric, we do not build yet.
Map before you automate. Marrallisa maps the process with the person who does the work, step by step, including the exceptions. Waiting, double entry and rework get removed on paper first. What is left is worth automating.
Build for failure, not for the demo. Every workflow follows six reliability principles: write it down first, one version of the truth, every job reaches an end, contain the damage, only retry what is safe to repeat, and leave a trail. It is error-proofing in the poka-yoke sense, applied to software. Read the principles in our recap of n8n’s talk on reliability and governance.
Measure and hand over. Each workflow gets a named owner, an alert on failure and documentation. Then we check the result against the success plan and train your team to maintain it.
The question that decides whether an automation stays reliable is where you let AI decide. Marrallisa used this framework in her lecture at Anthropic.

A workflow in n8n gives the same output for the same input, every time. That is what you want for routing, lookups, calculations and anything involving money.

An AI model gives a slightly different answer to the same question. That is useful for reading free text, recognising intent or drafting a reply, and risky everywhere else. So every build follows one rule: fixed rules wherever you can write the rule down, AI only for judgement, and a human approval before anything irreversible.
An n8n project with Marrallisa starts at EUR 1,250 for an automation scan, EUR 3,500 for one to three workflows in production, EUR 4,500 for a half-day team training and EUR 15,000 for a rollout with a centre of excellence. All prices exclude VAT.
| Format | What you get | From (excl. VAT) |
|---|---|---|
| n8n automation scan | One process mapped, waste removed on paper, a prioritised roadmap | EUR 1,250 |
| Workflow build | One to three workflows live, tested, with error handling and documentation | EUR 3,500 |
| n8n training for your team | Half a day, hands-on on your own cases | EUR 4,500 |
| n8n rollout and centre of excellence | From one use case to n8n across the organisation | EUR 15,000 |
Three things move the price: the number of systems and the quality of their APIs, whether AI steps and human approvals are involved, and whether you need separate test and production environments. The n8n licence or hosting comes on top and depends on your plan.
For context, hourly rates vary widely. The staffing firm South quotes USD 80 to 120 an hour for US-based freelance n8n specialists in its hiring guide. We price per outcome instead of per hour, so you know the cost of a working workflow before it is built. Planning a company-wide deployment? See what n8n costs at scale.
Hire an n8n expert on how they answer questions about failure, ownership and maintenance, not on a demo. Any workflow looks good on the happy path. Ask these eight questions on the first call, and listen for specifics.
Marrallisa answers every one of these in the first call, and the answers are written down on this site: in our governance approach, the n8n guides and the rollout method.
Hire an n8n freelancer for one well-scoped workflow, an n8n agency when automation spans many systems and teams, and a specialist like Marrallisa when you want the depth of one expert with the continuity of a company behind her.
| Option | Best when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| n8n freelancer | One clear workflow, someone on your side owns testing | No backup when they are away, credentials in their account |
| n8n specialist (Marrallisa) | You want the person who maps it to build it, train your team and stay accountable | One lead, so very large parallel programmes need a team around her |
| n8n agency | Many systems, governance and maintenance after launch | Juniors doing the work the senior sold |
| In-house team | Enough volume to keep a builder busy every week | Hiring before you know what to automate |
Viralistic sits between the first three: you work directly with Marrallisa, and Viralistic covers your website, search and brand when the automation touches them. Read what a full n8n agency does, what agencies charge and how to spot a template reseller. If the leak is on your website rather than in your back office, our CRO specialist page is the better start.
The best n8n specialist for your business builds workflows that fail visibly, documents them and makes your team able to run them. That is the standard DataCamp, n8n, Anthropic and Volkswagen Pon Financial Services saw when they asked Marrallisa to teach, and it is the standard she builds to. Plan a 30-minute call, bring the process your team repeats most, and leave with a clear view of what to automate first. Want her to train your team first? See her speaker and trainer page.
An n8n specialist maps your business processes, builds automated workflows in n8n that connect your tools, adds AI steps where judgement is needed and keeps the workflows reliable with error handling, logging and documentation. A good specialist also hosts or advises on hosting and trains your team, so the automations keep running after handover.
With Marrallisa, an n8n automation scan starts at EUR 1,250, a build of one to three production workflows at EUR 3,500, a half-day team training at EUR 4,500 and a rollout at EUR 15,000, all excluding VAT. The n8n licence or hosting comes on top. You get a written proposal before work starts.
Choose a freelancer for one well-scoped workflow with an owner on your side. Choose an agency when automation spans several systems, needs governance and maintenance. Marrallisa sits in between: one senior specialist who maps, builds and trains, backed by Viralistic for your website, search and brand when the automation touches them.
A simple workflow can be live within days. A workflow that connects several systems, includes AI steps and needs testing on real data usually takes a few weeks. The aim is to have the first business-critical workflow in production within 30 days, after a short phase of mapping the process and agreeing the outcome.
Bring one process your team repeats every week, the person who does the work, a list of the systems involved and admin access or someone who can grant it. A rough idea of the cost today, in hours or errors, helps set the metric. Marrallisa maps the rest with you in the scan.
Yes. The work starts with an audit: what runs, who owns it, which credentials it uses and why it fails. Workflows that work stay, fragile ones get error handling and documentation, and anything built on removed nodes gets replaced before an upgrade. The same applies to automations you want to move from Zapier or Make.
Both. n8n Cloud suits teams that want speed and little maintenance. Self-hosting suits sensitive data and full control over versions and data location, but someone must own updates, backups and security. Through our n8n hosting partner you can also run your own n8n instance hosted in Europe.
No. An n8n Ambassador is a community role: ambassadors host meetups and workshops and represent n8n locally, with a direct line to the n8n team. It shows deep involvement with the platform, not an exam result. Judge any specialist, Marrallisa included, on production work, ownership and how failures are handled.
Yes, and that is the goal. Every workflow comes with documentation and a named owner, and the half-day n8n training runs hands-on on your own cases. Marrallisa teaches the same way at universities and companies, so non-developers learn to read, adjust and extend workflows without breaking them.
Every phase ends with something you can see and keep.
Nothing gets built before we agree what success looks like.
Rules in n8n, AI only where judgement is needed.
A workflow is finished when it fails visibly, not when it runs once.
Your team owns it. We stay close for what comes next.
